Sink or Float - We filled a couple of sensory tables with water and then gave the children different items to put into the water. Before the children drop the item in, we ask them if they think it will sink or float.

Magic Milk - The children each have a styrofoam plate with milk that covers the bottom of it. Then we add drops of food colouring near the centre of the plate (1 drop in 4 spots). The children the dip a q-tip into liquid dish soap and then take their q-tip and dip (not stir) it around the drops of food colouring and watch what happens.

Lava Lamps -The children each have a baby food jar which we fill ¾ full of oil. In a separate cup we mixed the water and food colouring together and then add it to the oil in the jar; just enough to cover the bottom of the jar. Then we gave each child a ¼ tablet of alka seltzer. On the count of 3, we had the children drop their piece of tablet in the jar and watch what happens.

Bubbling Wizard's Brew -
The children each have a baby food jar which we fill 1/2 full of vinegar. Next we add several drops of food dye, a sprinkle of glitter, and a good squeeze of dish soap to the jar. Be sure to put the jar in the middle of a bowl or baking tray (we used our sensory bins) to contain the brew and then add a big teaspoon of baking soda and see what happens!
